Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you're only seventeen?
Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of Death and Destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father's kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran's queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar's wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire...
But Akaran has its own secrets -- thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most. . .including herself.
A lush and vivid story that is steeped in Indian folklore and mythology. The Star-touched Queen is a novel that no reader will soon forget.
I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This book was genius and magical and all the beautiful things combined into one loveeeely package. I adoreeeee this book, and up till now, I’m still kinda sad that it’s over. The whole context behind the story was a little bit unfamiliar to me, as I’m not quite knowledgeable on its culture (Indian, I think?) but the first page in and I was hooked.
Omg, the writing in this book was magical. Each sentence takes an emotion out of your being, and every emotion felt is so raw, be it happiness, heart break or just pure sadness. Each beautiful place was described thoroughly, especially the Night Bazaar and I could just picture it inside my head, so fascinating and a touch of magic, making me want to dive into the book.
The main character, Maya, was strong in her own way, not physically but mentally. She’s not the type of girl who never want any man, or love, but rather she could not, because since the day she was born, she had been cursed with death and destruction, such that nobody would want to be near her. Well, that’s until she met a mysterious, sexy dude. (Which I loooove from the start, no matter what the story wants us to believe about him HEHEHE.)
This vivid story will take you on a roller coaster ride, but at the same time, it will wrench out every emotion you had inside of you, until the last page. I was awed and I had to take a breather after reading this book in one seating, because OH MY GOD, IT’S SO DAMN GOOD. I mean, if you have not read it, then you definitely have to, right now.
Do it, for the heart breaking love, the kickass MC and the lovely setting.
