Dear Mom & Dad, I dropped out of school. I'm going backpacking. Sorry. Love you both.
At nineteen, Nina has endured two lifetimes' worth of humiliation. Tired of waiting for it to get better, she decides to get going-across the globe to New Zealand. There she soon faces what she most fears: a super sexy guy ready to be Nina's next mistake.
Once Sam's life was all about having fun. That was before the accident. Now his friends have bailed and his world is broken. But when a gorgeous girl on his flight looks at him with passion instead of pity, Sam feels his old self coming back to life.
Now traveling together, Nina and Sam know this isn't just a fling. They're falling fast, hard, and deep. More than anything, Sam wants Nina to forget her fears. But to help her do that he must reveal his own painful secret-and risk Nina never seeing him the same way again.
I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I have to say this first: I loooove the kind of tropes in which two strangers met on an island/other country. It always seemed like the love and romance was fated, because hey, what are the chances of you meeting you true love while backpacking, or trying to escape reality?
With that said, this book definitely called out to me, and I was really really interested in it. Nina has had a horrible horrible week, month, year, you name it. And she just needed to get away from those who know her, so she packed her bags, left a note for her parents and traveled half way across the world to get away from everything. Man, I wish I could do that. This book evoked tons of emotions inside of me. There were times when I started laughing out loud in public, and there were times when tears started unexpectedly leaking out of me.
Nina was unlike any female main character that I’ve read about before. She’s a klutz and I love her for it. She never fails to make you laugh, without even realizing that she’s doing so. I would definitely want her to be my best friend if I ever knew her, because she’s the type of person who you’d never be embarrassed of, no matter how many times she trip over herself.
And then there’s Sam. Sam is more of the heartbreaking type of guy. His background was so emotional, that I teared up every time he talked about his past. After going through a horrible accident that left a part of him scarred and an even more horrible “break-up” that scarred him worse, Sam decided to go backpacking in hopes that he could finally let it all out of his head and start anew. I definitely enjoyed every single scene that had Sam and Nina together.
THE ROMANCE IS JUST SO DAMN CUTE, I CANNOT. I legit squealed a million times at everything. First kiss, first hug, first HINT of romance. EVERYTHING. Because this whole book is full of sexual tension, but at the same time, made the romance seemed super duper innocent and adorable and awwwww. WHAT A SHIPPABLE COUPLE. You guys definitely need to read this book. NOW.
