Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who is the Fairest of them all? Pure evil has a name, hides behind a mask of deceit, and uses her "glamour" to gain power. But who is Queen Levana? Long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress in The Lunar Chronicles, Levana lived a very different story--a story that has never been told . . . until now. New York Times -bestselling author Marissa Meyer reveals the story behind her fascinating villain in Fairest, an unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes a special full-color image of Levana's castle and an excerpt from Winter, the exciting conclusion to The Lunar Chronicles.
You know who Levana reminds me of?
Except that Queen Levana is the scarier, bitchier and evil-er version of Nicki Minaj HEHE. But you know what? Usually after reading the background story for the evil character, I would somehow sympathize with them. But in this case, I think I actually hated Levana more than ever. I mean, the things she did. WOAH. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I DO PITY HER A LITTLE BIT. Which is messed up and pretty much amazing, huh? I guess only Marissa Meyer has the power to do that HAHA. But OH MY GOD.
The writing is definitely flawless, as one would expect from Meyer. This book made me so damn confused (but in a good way) because everything was freaking twisted but somehow, reading it in Levana’s point of view made it justified? No, justified is so not the right word. More of, IT MADE SENSE. But still, twisted. I swear, I spent half this book widening my eyes in horror, and the other half frowning out of pity for Levana. The romance was just. DAMN. HAHAH. I honestly don’t know how to describe it. Creepy is probably an understatement. She was already crazy in love with an older guy at the age of 15. Crazy is saying it LOOSELY, and the guy is MARRIED. It was easy to see why she was in love with the guy, but oh my God, seriously, it was so MESSED UP and my mind was reeling from it all. I think the romance in this book is probably the scariest romance I’ve ever read.
Oh yeah, we’ll also get to learn a little bit about everybody here and there. Like, how Cinder (Selene) ‘died’, and who exactly is Winter, and there were also some brief details about Dr Erland. OH OH OH oh my God, it’s been quite awhile since I read Cress, but I think I completely forgot that LEVANA IS NOT BEAUTIFUL. So, in this book, you’ll kinda figure out why she wasn’t beautiful, and MAN, it made her so damn twisted.
I cannot stress enough about how much you need to read this book before Winter, because you’ll definitely see everything much more clearer.
