Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.
Last summer, Mackenzie Bishop, a Keeper tasked with stopping violent Histories from escaping the Archive, almost lost her life to one. Now, as she starts her junior year at Hyde School, she's struggling to get her life back. But moving on isn't easy -- not when her dreams are haunted by what happened. She knows the past is past, knows it cannot hurt her, but it feels so real, and when her nightmares begin to creep into her waking hours, she starts to wonder if she's really safe.
Meanwhile, people are vanishing without a trace, and the only thing they seem to have in common is Mackenzie. She's sure the Archive knows more than they are letting on, but before she can prove it, she becomes the prime suspect. And unless Mac can track down the real culprit, she'll lose everything, not only her role as Keeper, but her memories, and even her life. Can Mackenzie untangle the mystery before she herself unravels?
With stunning prose and a captivating mixture of action, romance, and horror, The Unbound delves into a richly imagined world where no choice is easy and love and loss feel like two sides of the same coin.
Victoria Schwab has this certain talent for writing about magical places, making her books more magical, and I’m serious. I’ve never seen such well-written books before, and I’m pretty sure she was also a best-selling author in her last five lives or something HAHA. But okay, I kinda started this book while trying so hard to remember how the Archived ended (because it’s been a REALLY long while), and then I wished I hadn’t because the Archived was heartbreaking ok!!
BUT OMG OKAY THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING. Especially Wes!! I didn’t think he would play a much bigger role than what he was in The Archived, but it’s safe to say that this book IS ALL ABOUT WES. SEXY SEXY WES. I’m not kidding when I say it’s all about Wes. We get to know more about him, his life, his everrrrrything.
MacKenzie was still awesome as hell, as usual. Even if she was a little bit messed up in this book, but that was the whole point. Nobody should come out of this thing unscathed, and I love that Victoria Schwab made her that way. Because guys, it’s totally fine for heroes to have breakdowns too, yknow?
The Unbound was as magical as ever, and of course made me doubt Archive. Because come on, we all know that Archive isn’t all that goody-goody either. BUT this book had heartbreaking moments, those times when we saw MacKenzie’s raw feelings, what she was truly going through, oh my heart totally breaks for her in those moment.
OKAY SO THERE IS GOING TO BE BOOK THREEEEE. YAY HOORAY. Yup, I really love VESchwab’s books. DEFINITELY.
